The history of the Redbank School of Arts

The previous Redbank School of Arts Hall was officially opened on Saturday 6 March 1909, and was a result of residents raising two-thirds and the Queensland Government contributing one-third of the required monies (totalling £300).

The current Hall was officially opened on Friday 16 October 1914 and cost a total of £1000 (for land, building and fittings).

The site was chosen as it has main street frontage and the residents felt that it was more accessible than the original hall.

Additional Information

Opened in 1914, the architect for the current Redbank School of Arts was T. R. Hall of Brisbane and the builder was Thiene and Blackhardt of Goodna.

It initially included a hall, a library of 700 volumes and a shop at the front.

The Redbank School of Arts has remained an important centre for the community and has been used for picture shows, dances, debutante balls and official dinners.
